Powerpuff

Wednesday, January 29, 2014
I figure I should start the post by explaining the title... I'm absolutely horrible at coming up with names for outfit posts. I put this on and the first thing to come to mind was the powerpuff girls because let's be honest, who doesn't think of the powerpuff girls when they see pink, blue, and green together?  I would honestly pay someone to make up titles for me. I bring the cute outfits, you bring the witty titles. Deal?

Playlist For: January

Oh January, what a slow month you were. Usually I'm in shock when the 31st rolls, around and I wonder how 31 days could pass so quickly.

January however, was not one of those months. It definitely took it's time, and while it wasn't a month filled with action and adventure, it was still a pretty good way to start the new year. January was a month of getting back in the swing of things, sleeping a lot, and having epic dance parties alone in my room. Here's a few tracks that I've been listening to a ton this month.

12 Books to Read

Tuesday, January 28, 2014
* denotes book that i've already read, but plan to reread

One of my new year's resolutions was to read more. I use to be a total bookworm when I was younger. I remember I was really into the Magic Tree House series and I would force my dad to drive me to Barnes and Noble all the time. I would read at least two books while I was waiting for my dad, buy four more, and finish all of them within an hour of getting home. Now that I'm in high school, I have more work and less time to be able to sit down and curl up with a good book. There's plenty of books that I need to read, like the Hunger Game trilogy, but I also want to revisit some of my favorites. I don't really have much of a preference when it comes to genre or author, but I really love the Jeffery Archer books that I've read, as well the Millennium series (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, etc.). I've yet to read a book this month, but I'm hoping to start and finish Looking for Alaska to keep me on track with my goal.

Read any good books lately? I'd love some more recommendations!

Natural Habitat

Monday, January 27, 2014
As much as I love dressing up, some days you just gotta keep it simple. I remember freshmen year all of my outfits consisted of jeans, a v-neck from H&M, a cardigan and a pair of flats or Toms. While it wasn't bad, it definitely wasn't stylish. Now that my style is more refined and developed, I still find myself going back to this combo, except this time it's better than ever. Instead of a basic v neck, I chose a bejeweled top and added a leopard print scarf over it. The richness of the cardigan adds some interest to an otherwise neutral outfit, and keeps me cozy all day (this shirt is not the kind of shirt you want to wear when it's breezy outside. I felt wind in places I didn't want to...).

So while this outfit isn't necessarily fashion bloggeresque, it's simple, comfortable, and 100% me.

I am the Captain Now

Saturday, January 25, 2014
I just finished watching Captain Phillips and holy moly that movie was beyond fantastic. I already knew that they would all make it out alive, but the amount of suspense i felt was ridiculous. I was physically shaking for about ten minutes because I couldn’t see how this man would get out alive. Captain Phillips made me feel all the emotions. I laughed (“Captain Phillips is safe and your friends are dead.” I have a dark sense of humor. Sorry not sorry), I felt tense and scared, and I even cried a bit. Not only is Captain Phillips on my list of movies that have made me cry, but it is also on my list of favorite movies ever.

Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi were phenomenal actors as expected. The cinematography was flawless. One of my favorite scenes being the one where the SEAL team is parachuting into the water at night, only coming second to the closing scene where Philips is being examined by the medics (I’d like to point out that I started crying right when Tom Hanks started crying).

Captain Phillips is a must see in my book.

Brr

Friday, January 24, 2014

Didn't have school today because in Texas half an inch of ice is hazardous. I stayed up late helping my brother pack for his move to San Francisco, slipped on ice multiple times, risked getting hypothermia from taking pictures without a coat, got my butt wet doing silly poses, and almost lost a finger to frostbite.

Oh, how I love a good "snow" day.

Invested

Wednesday, January 22, 2014
The vest is back and I have a good feeling that it's here to stay awhile. Since rediscovering this little item a few weeks ago, I can't stop pairing it with every single outfit. It adds texture and makes a simple outfit feel more complete. It combines my favorite things, color blocking, vests, and a obnoxious necklace to form one perfect outfit.  I'll definitely be repeating this the future... once I can think of more vest puns.

Invested in Vests

Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Guess who reached 40 followers on bloglovin yesterday and 60 followers on GFC recently?

THIS GIRL!
Thank you so so so much to all the weird people who find me somewhat interesting. I honestly don't know what attracts people to my blog, or how people even manage to stumble across my place on the internet.  But to all my followers, I think y'all are pretty rad and I love all of you to bits.

Speaking of things I love, I LOVE VESTS (and caps lock apparently). I've had this vest since I stole borrowed it from my friend M.C. in eighth grade? After seeing all of Nicole's outfits with her fur vest (my favorites are here, here, and here) I became inspired to work my crochet vest to its full potential. Tossing a vest over a super simple outfit is one of the easiest things you can do. It add a contrasting color, some interesting texture (especially if it's faux fur), and in this case, it upgrades a boring outfit, to a tumblr approved, boho/hipster inspired outfit.

I had SAT tutoring when I wore this, so I was mainly focused on comfort. A lightweight white long sleeve, crochet vest, and my favorite dark wash jeans were perfect for the kinda warm but not quite weather we had this past weekend. My Everlane tote was perfect for lugging my SAT book around, and my red flats added a fierce pop of color. I left my hair in the bun that I slept on, tossed on my watch and a basic necklace, grabbed my sunglasses and was good to go. I love dressing up and getting all fancy, but easy outfits like this are by far my favorite. They make getting dressed a breeze, and I feel comfortable and cute. Don't be surprised if you see this vest again very soon...

The vest is yet to come.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion

Wednesday, January 8, 2014
About two months ago, I picked up some items from The Body Shop for my eczema, which is actually tinea versicolor, but that's another post. I've been using this scrub about once or twice a week ever since and I love it! It has a light citrus scent which is fresh and invigorating, and it's packed with exfoliating beads while still feeling very thick and creamy. I use about a dime size for my entire face or a nickel amount if I'm including my neck area. Although it's a bit pricey, a little goes a long way and I only use it a maximum of twice a week because it's works so well. My skin always looks and feels very smooth and healthy after using this. I like to apply a drop of moringa oil and use my vitamin C serum afterwards to keep my skin feeling smooth, and looking happy and healthy.

If you're in the market for a really good face scrub, I highly recommend this! It is a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way and it leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth.

Winter Lace

Tuesday, January 7, 2014
First day back at school and I can already tell that today is gonna be rough. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year! We had some family from England in town, so most of this break was spent shopping (almost everyday, I kid you not). It was nice to have them in town since I haven't seen them in about four years, but I appreciated the little bit of quite time I got once they left. I've been feeling really down and unmotivated lately. I've been working on putting up blogposts and videos more, but I feel as if I've lost some of that extra oomph. Mid-teen crisis perhaps? I'm hoping that this mood is just because of the crappy weather, I could really use a nice and sunny day!

My darling aunt got me this dress for Christmas. I have a thing for lace dresses and obviously had to wear it asap. Too bad I decided to wear this when it was freezing and windy as heck outside. Having lace sleeves is the same as having NO SLEEVES at all. I might as well have gone out in a bra and underwear because this dress was doing absolutely nothing at providing some warmth, or at least working as a shield from the wind. All in the name of looking cute, right? Luckily, I had my giant tote from Everlane* to work as a shield from the wind. Y'all know I originally had my eyes on a tote from Cuyana, but after comparing the prices I decided that the Everlane was the better choice for now (although I'm still wanting the Cuyana tote, possible grad present?). I'll do a whole post on it once I've had it for a while, but I'm extremely excited to have this to use on a possible trip to Boston over spring break!

Hopefully your day is better than mine and you're wearing something warmer than a lace dress to keep you cozy!
