thanksgiving twenty-fifteen.

Hello lovlies! I hope y'all had a wonderful thanksgiving! I originally wasn't planning on going home for thanksgiving, but then a few weeks ago I decided to check for plane tickets and within the span of an hour I went from planning on not going home, to buying a ticket and figuring out how to surprise my parents. It was so nice to be home, even for just a few days and I really missed texas and my family, but I think the fact that I was so ready to come back to nyc is a sign that this is definitely gonna be my home for a while. I didn't take very many pictures while I was home, but I did put together a little video of my trip home. I'd love to add some more video content, and I'm really proud of it (completely shot and edited on my iPhone 6s. Really!) so watch it and let me know what you think!

Welcome to The Neighborhood

After sorting, editing, and exporting these photos I realized something– I am basically dressed like Mr. Rodgers, and I think that's awesome. My sweatshirt isn't quite a zip up cardigan, and I may be wearing a flashy necklace instead of a tie, but you have to admit that I'm pretty dang close. I'm all for striking a balance between masculine and feminine, casual and dressy and I think this outfit does a stellar job at that. Dirty converse, ripped jeans and a sweatshirt keep this outfit pretty laid back and relaxed, but the oxford and shiny necklace under the collar add just enough to keep this from looking like I rolled straight out of bed. I scored this sweatshirt for only $5 the other day when Uniqlo was having their massive anniversary sale, and I can't wait to wear it during the holiday season!

I wore this on a tea date on the upper west side with my roommate and let me tell you, if there are stoops and brownstones around, you can guarantee that I will fall in love with the area. I find that my favorite parts of the city are the more quiet areas because you can relax and enjoy the scenery but you know that the hustle and bustle of the city is just a short subway ride away. As I explore different parts of the city, I love thinking about if I could imagine myself living there, and I could totally imagine living on the upper west side– just not until I start making upper west side money

Living in New York has confirmed the fact that I love the fall time. I love living in layers and the leaves, oh man the leaves are beautiful and scattered all over the place and when a strong gust of wind comes along and knocks them off the trees I can't help but fall in love all over again. I made sure to get myself out to Central Park before all the leaves fell off the trees and WOW. As you can see in the first few pictures, I'm really into this whole leaves thing. It also helps that it's been oddly warm here in the city (it's been bouncing around in the 60s-50s and occasionally the low 70s the past few weeks) so now really is the perfect time to get out and explore the city. I'm just really glad that I can still go out with just a t-shirt and a cardigan!

I am absolutely obsessed with this cardigan, so much so that I actually have it in two different colors! I love that it has large pockets which make it easy to place my phone, keys, or ID if my hands are full, and it's long enough and big enough where it feels like I'm just walking around wrapped up in a blanket. I've quickly come to learn how important outerwear is in terms of staying warm and looking polished! I'm thinking of adding a leather jacket to my arsenal and possibly a blazer to wear casually so I'm not constantly wearing these cardigans day in and day out. 

Are there any outerwear items that you find your self reaching for again and again this fall season? Also, where can a girl get a decently priced nice quality leather jacket?

For those of you who are late to the party, my blog went through some pretty big changes recently-- all new everything! New layout, new name, new web domain and with so many changes, I thought that now would also be the perfect time to change my about me page. If you've been reading for awhile, or you just stumbled across my space on the internet, here's a lil bit about me and this blog. Enjoy!

ABOUT THE GIRL Toyosi Oyelola is an Austin native who is currently living in New York City. She is a freshman at the Stern School of Business at New York University and at the moment is planning on being a marketing major with a minor in the business of media, entertainment, and technology. While she loves being in the city, Toyosi is currently suffering from major queso and breakfast taco withdrawals. 

Despite her youthful appearance, Toyosi is essentially a 35 year old on the inside. She enjoys listening to NPR podcasts, grocery shopping, staying in on Friday nights, and she becomes overly excited when she finds large bottles of San Pellegrino at Trader Joe's for only $1.49 (so cheap!!!). 

On a more serious note, Toyosi enjoys exploring the city, photography, coffee, and a good discussion.  She believes in the love of her Savior, dressing well, and the power of a bright lip or a flashy necklace. 

On any given day, you can find Toyosi in class, in bed, or at a coffee shop. That's about it.

Created in 2012 at the age of 15, this blog as grown and evolved quite a bit to where it is now. Shirt Dress

Do you ever just get so overwhelmed and busy that you have no time to write outfits posts and when you finally do have time, the outfit is irrelevant because of the changing of the seasons? I wore this outfit almost two months ago and I'm just now getting around to writing a post for it... oops! Although it's a bit too chilly out here in the city for bare legs, I can't wait to layer this top over jeans or pixie pants and underneath cardigans and sweaters. When I ordered this online a few months ago, I didn't expect it to be so dang long, but I've grown to like the length of it. Playing with proportions is one of my favorite ways to take simple items and make them look and feel interesting. 

I wore this outfit many moons ago while exploring Chelsea and it was simple enough for a day filled with exploring while still being stylish enough for New York. I'm a huge fan of menswear inspired outfits, and I love how it just looks like I put on a mens shirt, some red lipstick and called it a day.

Am I Doing This Right?

For the longest time I thought that those puffer vests that you see all over Pinterest were a scam. There is no way someone can wear a puffer vest over a long sleeve and be all warm and cozy, right? Wrong. Very very wrong. This vest is easily one of my best fall/winter purchases because it does a great job at keeping your core body heat. I wore this while exploring the Lower East Side and walking along the river but I still ended up wearing my J.Crew factory Field Jacket over this because my long sleeve shirt, although it's thick, was not enough to keep out the pretty strong winds by the water. 

It's surprisingly still "warm" here in NYC but I've definitely noticed that there's some key players in my wardrobe that I would wear everyday if I could, and this vest as well as this shirt are a few of those players.
