The Golden Age

"Flying away from reality, whatever ever happened to gravity?"
The Golden Age | Asteroids Galaxy

Shirt: Forever 21 | Shorts: Thrifted | Shoes: Converse | Bandeau: PacSun
Can we please take a moment to appreciate how awesome this lighting is? Besides the fact that you can't see my face very well but, what's a black girl gonna do? Unfortunately, my spring break has come to an end. I wore this on one of my last days of freedom break. My aunt randomly called me and we went to go get pedicures. I didn't have any plans for the day so I basically just tossed this on and left. Don't be surprised if you see me wearing this outfit multiple times this summer. It's the perfect summer ensemble: thrifted denim shorts, a light and loose baggy white v-neck, and the classic white converse. Honestly, could it get any better?

DIY Shoe Upgrade

Friday, March 22, 2013
So I've had these pair of black flats sitting in my closet for over two years. I've never actually worn them because of their unappealing looks. The black trim blended in to much with the shoe and reminded me of something someone much, much older would wear. I saw this tutorial on how to paint leather, and decided to paint the trim white for some much needed contrast.
I started off by cleaning off the shoe with some rubbing alcohol. In her post, she said that you should sand down the leather first. I forgot to do this but it didn't affect the look too much. They probably would have looked nicer if I did...
I diluted my paint so that it had a thinner consistency but so that it was still opaque. I had to do less coats and it filled in any cracks or unevenness on the shoes.
Then I started painting! I probably did around 2-3 coats.
Hardest part of this DIY? Trying to take "candid" picture of yourself painting...especially when your camera is on manual focus without you knowing and your timer goes off in like 3 seconds... the photography struggle.
And that's it! You've got yourself a sweet "new" pair of flats! I would recommend using a sealant or gloss over it to help prevent it from chipping. Although they look much better, I'm not sure if I will get much wear out of them so they might end up at a goodwill... but at least I know how to paint leather now! I think I might try to go thrift some bags and have some fun experimenting with colorblocking. I hope this tutorial helped someone!

Spring Essentials

Wednesday, March 20, 2013
For those of you who spend your time locked away inside, Spring is here! That means warmer weather, spring break (!!!), horrible allergies, and new trends! I personally love spring because that means no more cold, gray (or is it grey?) days, and I'm two months away from being done with my sophomore year. Being the fashion lover that I am, I don't only see new seasons as a change in weather,   I also see them as a change in wardrobe. New color palettes, collections, patterns, and shapes arise with the new season and who better than me to share them with you. Okay, I could think of some better people to share them with you, but we're not naming names here, okay?

Leopard Print
1, 2, 3, 4
Leopard print is one of those prints that can either be really tasteful, or really trashy (ex. Snooki's house). The trick to pulling off leopard print is to only use it in small doses like a scarf, or ballet flats. I love my leopard print scarf to death because it's neutral color palette goes with almost anything while the print adds some fun and texture. I've also seen a lot of bloggers wearing leopard print loafers and flats which conjures up memories of the leopard flats I had in fifth grade. That's right. I had style in fifth grade.

Chambray
1, 2, 3, 4
If you didn't see this one coming, then you must be living under a rock. Chambray, which is essentially a fancier name for a lightweight denim material, has been extremely popular as of late. Something about it's carefree, relaxed vibe makes it versatile and easy to wear for almost any occasion.

Maxi Everything
1, 2, 3, 4
Maxi skirts and dresses have really grown on me since I bought my first skirt at express last year. For anyone seeking out that bohemian vibe, maxi items are a must! I can't stand to wear maxi skirts and dresses in the Texas summers because of all the fabric, but I think it's perfect for the cooler spring days and they keep you covered during the chilly spring nights. And the best part about maxi skirts and dresses? You don't have to shave! Just kidding! (Not really...)

Black and White
1, 2, 3, 4
Despite the fact that bright colors, like coral and yellow, are commonly associated with spring, black and white are becoming increasingly popular. I love the black and white trend because it works well with bright lips and accessories. Due to the simple color palette, the b/w trend focuses more on patterns, shapes, and textures to keep it interesting.

Bright Lips + Fresh Face + Full Lashes
1, 2, 3, 4
I know this one isn't fashion related but bear with me. I love anything simple and fresh for spring makeup. Anytime I see a girl with dewy skin, simple eyes and a bright lip I literally melt inside. If only I could have flawless skin and long, full lashes (eff you hyper-pigmentation and tangled lashes. Effff youuu..). I really like long lashes paired with a simple cat eye and maybe even a brightening inner corner color. It adds the right amount of definition without being too over the top and allows for the focus to be pulled towards the bright lips that everyone should rock this spring.

One trend that you may have noticed that I left out was florals. But c'mon, Florals? For spring?

I couldn't have said it any better Meryl.

Firmoo Review

Sunday, March 17, 2013

"The old opinion that glasses are only necessities for people with vision problems has already gone. Glasses are increasingly becoming a fad and must-have accessories for  celebs and fashionistas. Everyday we can spot millions of non prescription glasses wearers and we are constantly fascinated by many noted film stars’ signature non prescription glasses. They instantly upgrade your look of modern, sexy, vintage or geek by wearing different styles of frames.
Any hot glasses/sunglasses /goggles frames you want can be found on Firmoo, and all are available for both prescription lenses and non-prescription lenses. Are you desperate to have a new look? Now here is the chance, Firmoo has launched a First Pair Free Program to people  worldwide. You will absolutely fall in love with the excellent quality, affordable prices, fashionable designs, fast delivery and the good service after trying them with paying shipping only! You even can get a refund/exchange if you are not satisfied with them. It's totally Risk free, so why not have a try?"- From Firmoo

The glasses came with a hard and soft case, a microfiber cloth, and a screwdriver and two screws.

Let's pretend that I did not just wake up before taking this picture okay?

About a two months ago, the company Firmoo reached out to me and offered to send me a pair of glasses. I've been too lazy to reorder my contacts, so I've been wearing my glasses again for awhile now. I prefer wearing contacts, but you always need a pair of back-up glasses just incase. The glasses I had before were way too small for me to actually use comfortably! Plus, they had transition lenses which honestly make you look like an idiot when you go inside. I ended up choosing these frames which suit my personality perfectly!

The frames don't feel cheap and I love all the choices you have. Not only do they have a wide variety of frames, but you can also choose if you want to have them with a prescription or not, the lens thickness (I chose polycarbonate as recommended by my optometrist), and if you want any coatings such as a UV coating.

My only complaint was the shipping. I placed my order February 4th, only to receive an email telling me that their supplier was on holiday and that my glasses wouldn't be shipped out until the 18th of that month. First of all, what supplier takes off for two whole weeks?! My glasses ended up being shipped out on the 24th and I received them on the 4th of this month. I didn't need my glasses in a hurry so I wasn't that upset, but if you wanted new glasses before a certain date, you might be in some trouble.

Overall, I had a positive experience with Firmoo. Despite the long shipping time, it's a great place to get glasses for a reasonable price. Also, they have a first pair free deal where you can try a pair of glasses for free!

What do you think of my new specs? Will you be picking up a pair of Firmoo glasses?

Texas Style Council Shop Hop @ The Domain

Wednesday, March 13, 2013
This dress, orange blazer, hot pink lips. Yes? Yes.

I don't know what the heck this print is, but I do know that I like it.

I need a white blazer in my life.

Yummy jellybeans, cookies, and popcorn! I'm a sucker for things that look good and taste good.

We didn't choose the thug life; the thug life choose us.

My bestfriend for the past 11 years! I'm convincing her to start blogging so we'll see how that goes...

Original Gangester.

This past weekend I was lucky to attend the Texas Style Council March Mixer. I only went on Saturday which was a Shop Hop at The Domain. This was my first time ever meeting up with other bloggers. I was terrified. I'm really bad in situations where I don't really know anyone. I dragged my friend along with me for support and she was actually surprised when she saw how nervous I was. "You get nervous?! I never knew!" She stated when she noticed how much my hands were shaking.

Anyways, to make a long story short, I had an amazing time meeting and connecting with other bloggers. I finally got to meet Indiana and Nicole in person and I also met Miranda, another teen blogger. I usually feel kinda awkward talking about my blog and blogging in general with other people.  It was nice to actually feel comfortable talking about what I love and to be able to talk fashion and blogging with other people!

A few of the lovely bloggers I met:
Indiana | Adored Austin
Miranda | Fashioneur

The Handshake

Monday, March 11, 2013

Well don't I look like a little professional? I feel like I look like some fresh outta college girl who still wears crop tops, but puts on a blazer and some swanky glasses in an attempt to look grown-up. I just picked up this blazer from H&M this past weekend which has ignited my love for blazers once again. I was tempted to pick up this blazer in white, but I decided that black was a more practical option, especially since I only have a red blazer and an ill-fitting navy blazer which I'll probably give away. I didn't really feel like going all out today, so I tossed on some jeans, a bustier styled crop top and a blazer. I like how the outfit looks put together but the crop top adds a bit of fun.
Thank God that the weather is finally getting warmer! I can actually wear skirts and shorts without freezing my little butt off. It's finally time for shorts, skirts, and tank tops galore.
*P.S!: On my Tumblr, I will start posting my posts from the blog as well as "Leftover" pictures. Make sure to follow me on there so you don't miss out on anything!

"What do you mean I can't live in blazers?!"

Look familiar? Here, try looking at it from a different angle...
