MM #22: Old School

Monday, September 30, 2013
My friend Ellie tweeted me a link to a video of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Merchant having a lip-sync battle. Funniest. Thing. Ever. JGL was gettin' it when he was "singing" to Tiny Dancer. They played a lot of older songs, which reminded me of a few of my favorite songs from forever ago. Some days you just gotta wear you hair super fluffy and serenade yourself with some classics from ABBA and Sir Elton John.

In other news, today is my first City of Austin Youth Council meeting! I'm actually waiting for my ride to get here, and I'm crazy nervous. I'm super blessed to have this opportunity, but I have no clue what to expect. I'll hopefully update y'all tomorrow with how it went and possible an outfit post. It's also my first day of fall break, and I already have a ton of fun stuff planned, I'm doing my first photoshoot tomorrow, going to a Boston University info sesh on Wednesday, and I have a couple of ideas for blogposts that will hopefully be happening soon.

It's gonna be a good week.

Playlist here // Remember that today is the LAST day to enter my Kiecap Giveaway!

Music Madness #21

Monday, September 23, 2013
Only one more week of school until fall break, and that means that basically everything is due either tomorrow or wednesday. On the plus side, the weather has been extremely nice lately, which hopefully means that my two splendid weeks on fall break can be spent doing things outside of my house for once. It must really suck to be a public school kid.

Gold+Chambray

Tank: Forever 21 | Shorts: Uniqlo | Chambray: Banana Republic (originally Kelsey's) | Chain: c/o Kiecap on Etsy

You know what happens when you try new things? One, you get an awesome outfit, and two, you begin to think that you might be allergic to grass, or there was a TON of bugs I didn't notice, after taking pictures. I was itching my arms and legs for a good week after shooting this! I've been trying to change up my backgrounds by shooting in my front yard and I attempted to do some more "artsy" shots. I'm pretty sure my neighbors either think I'm weird, or conceited for taking pictures of myself. All in the name of blogging right?

Anyways, I was having a total "I'm gonna get stuff done!... but not really" kind of day, and I tried to put together the comfiest outfit that was still pretty dang cute, and I must say, I think I nailed it. White tank, stretchy printed shorts that feel like pjs, and something to keep me warm as I lie down on the cold leather couch in our air conditioned living room while watching Arrested Development. #Firstworldprobz. Oh, and I obviously had to wear a gold chain to upkeep my thug status.

Duh.

Wishing Wednesday: Cuyana Leather Tote

Wednesday, September 11, 2013
After TxSC, I think I'm subconsciously trying to become Linda. First my obsession with dresses, then my hunt for the perfect booties, and now my desire to own a Cuyana leather tote. I might as well change my blog name to "Mini Tin Soldier". What can I say, that woman has great taste. ;)

I've never been much of a purse kind of gal, I've always preferred smaller cross body bags that would hold my necessities without getting in the way. It's always worked out for me except for those days when I feel the need to lug around my laptop, and a jacket, and my whole dang room on trips to family or friends houses, or when going on short trips. Kendi uses her Madewell tote all the time, but I could never justify spending $170 on one item (unless is was a present *cough* Youth council member right here *cough* dad I hope you're reading this *cough*) I saw that linda had a tote incredible similar from cuyana for slightly cheaper ($150 or $160 with a monogram) and I was hooked. I love the color selection they have, but I think the caramel has stolen my heart, with nectarine being a close second. And despite my strong dislike for the monogram, I love how theirs are incredibly simple and sleek as opposed to the classic "preppy girl" monograms.

It looks like the girl who was once against huge bags has found her perfect one. And so the saving begins...

Music Madness #20

Monday, September 9, 2013
Is it just me, or does indie music sound better in the fall time? I saw a tweet the other week that said "if Bon Iver was a month, they'd be September." I personally see Bon Iver more as a November, but that's just my opinion.

I already had my playlist made for this week, but I decided to create a spottily radio based on said playlist. BEST. IDEA. EVER. I usually stick to songs I know and love, but it's always great to listen to the radio and find some great new artists and songs. I hope yall like this super calming playlist. I'm gonna go take a nap. Mondays=no fun days.

p.s. yay or nay to this new MM design?

Sunday Casual

Sunday, September 8, 2013

“When a woman says, ‘I have nothing to wear!’, what she really means is, ‘There’s nothing here for who I’m supposed to be today.”- Caitlin Moran.

This was literally me last Sunday while trying to find what to wear. I've been in a bit of a style rut lately and I'm desperately waiting for cooler weather so I can breakout all the fall outfits I've meticulously been planning in my head.

I'm trying to blog everyday this month and post at least one outfit a week. I shoot all my outfits on the weekends since I wear a uniform during the week, so whenever I lack inspiration, or deem my outfit as not blog worthy, I get a bit stressed. I never dress up for my blog, all my outfits are things that fit my mood or the occasion at the time, so when my closet feels lacking, or pinterest fails to inspire, you get the super simple and basics outfits like this one.

I'm glad that I go to a church that honestly doesn't care about what your wearing. I could go in a dress and pumps one week, jeans and a tee the next, and no one would think twice about it. I embraced my casual side this week with a pair of jeggings and one of my favorite tees from H&M. I must have at least ten of these basic crew and v-necks from H&M cause they're so dang cheap and versatile. I wasn't in the mood for a necklace, so I opted for a leopard scarf from Luxe No7 so I could feel somewhat put together. And last but not least, the piece de resistance, these super sweet loafers from Gap. I still can't think of other outfits to wear them with, but nonetheless, these shoes are perfect! I adore menswear inspired items, neon+neutral is my favorite color combo, and suede shoes are the best shoes in my eyes. I mean, could they get any better?

new york. [thoughts+pictures]

Saturday, September 7, 2013

All photos taken and edited by me.

Words can not express how much I miss New York. I spent a week there in June for my cousins wedding, and I fell in love all over again.

I know it's so cliche to say "I love New York!", but I do, I really really do love that city. I've mentioned it a few times here on the blog, but my dream school is NYU (go Bobcats!) and I would do almost anything to be able to go.

I can't even count the number of times I've stayed up till 5AM taking mental notes about what I would pack if I moved there, or what I would need to buy to survive the cold. I've found countless blogs about college living, and even some about attending NYU, and at least once a week, I spend time on forever21.com adding items to my cart that would be perfect for wearing to class and staying warm in the northeastern winters.

I love Austin with all my heart, but Austin is Austin and New York is New York, and those are two totally different things. So until I send off my application to NYU and other schools on the east coast, I'll use this time to explore my city, take in the sights, food and people and love it as much as I can. 💛

Canadian Tuxedo

Friday, September 6, 2013
Denim on denim, chambray, BR
I would usually be the person to avoid denim on denim, but ever since I saw Jessica from Bows and Sequins rock the Canadian Tuxedo I've been wanting to try it out for myself. I picked up this denim shirt from the Lulu*s swap at TxSC and I've been obsessed. Don't be surprised if you see this shirt again very soon... It's originally from Banana Republic and belonged to Kelsey before it made it's way into my hands. It definitely doesn't have a tailored fit on me, but I looove how I can wear it like a cardigan over simple shirts, or button it up with a scarf and skinny bottoms.

There's a very good chance that this blog might turn into a blog devoted to denim on denim (and stripes), but I mean, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that ;)

Aviators, ALDO, Denim on Denim

Favorite Fall Time Candles

Thursday, September 5, 2013
Bath and Body Works, Candles, Fall Time,
September/October is always a weird month for blogging. Everyone else in other parts of the country starts blogging about fall and the cooler weather while I'm sitting here in shorts waiting for the weather to drop below 100, or 90 if we're lucky.

Since I can't exactly breakout my sweaters and cardigans without melting, I turn to candles to get me in the fall mood! I've always loved candles from Bath and Body Works since they're always have a large selection and you can almost always catch them on sale. I currently have a Salted Caramel candle in my room that I picked up last winter on sale. I love the smell, but it burns a bit too strong for my taste, it's much better burned in large areas as opposed to my room!

Pumpkin Caramel Latte has always been a favorite since it reminds me so much of pumpkin spice latte, which is really the only think I get from starbucks. I haven't actually smelled Harvest Coffee in person, but coffee is always a super cozy and warm scent for me, as well as Frosted Cupcake, which smells like HEAVEN. According to B&BW Marshmallow Fireside is suppose to "Celebrate the changing season with a warm blend of toasted marshmallows, smoldering woods and creamy vanilla reminiscent of a cozy evening 'round the bonfire." And if were combining marshmallows  vanilla, and campfires together, then I'm all for it.
