Cut Out Nails

Thursday, February 28, 2013
I love having painted nails. Honestly, sometimes I choose not to wear an awesome outfit solely because my nails aren't painted. That's not weird right? Despite the fact that I love painted nails, I can't stand painting them! First I have to pick a color, and then shape my nails, and put a base coat on, and then I actually have to paint them, and put another coat on, and then a top coat, and after I've gone through this whole process I have to wait for them to dry! The struggle is real y'all. And fancy nail art? Ain't nobody got time fo' dat! Well this weekend, after I saw this picture on tumblr, I decided that maybe I actually do have time for that. I've never seen nails like this which is what inspired me to do them. They're actually really easy to do if you have a steady hand. I used Urban Outfitter's "Cherry Tomato" and American Apparel's "California Trooper". I think I might do a neon and neutral look next.... What do you think about cut-out nails? Would you ever go for them?

Woods.

Monday, February 25, 2013

I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind
I'm building a still to slow down the time.
These pictures are actually from a couple of weeks ago, but my brother just got around to editing them.  I love this skirt like crazy! I got it Papaya of all places. I never go to Papaya but this skirt was hanging in the window and I couldn't resist. They didn't have a small so I, out of desperation, got a medium instead. High-low skirts are really casual, but when they blow in the wind? Elegant.

sometimes i hate high school.
being constantly surrounded by people who i deem ignorant and annoying. being stuck in classes that i can guarantee will not help me later in life. worrying about my gpa and if i'm doing enough extra stuff to get into nyu. worrying about national honor society hours and sending in the key club monthly reports on time which i'm pretty sure i haven't done it in the last three months. worrying about everything.
and when i'm not hating high school, i wish i could have a true high school experience.
braving the cold with paint streaked across my face at a football game. going out to eat with the whole school whether we won or not. meeting a wonderful boy and gorging on ice cream with my best friends if we ever break up. being absolutely terrified about not having friends on the first day and looking back months later when i realize that i have a wonderful group of friends and that i'm actually happy. driving around on a friday night just because we can and we have nothing else to do.
but maybe this only happens in movies?
i'm not too sure.
but i hope
and i wish
that it could happen to me.

Goodwill Haul

Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Popped some tags; this is what I got.

I love oversized mens shirts! I got a bit too excited and cut the sleeves off the second I got home. I think that baggy mens clothes look awesome on petite girls.

Stripes? Sweater? Neon pink? Taupe? Old Navy? Sold.

If you're gonna go thrifting I highly recommend looking in the kids section. It's nearly impossible to find jeans that are my size and actually high-waisted (these go up to my bellybutton. I'm so pumped.) I'm actually surprised that these kids size ten even fit me. I'm gonna cut these into shorts so the length doesn't matter.
I usually go for dark wash jeans but I kinda dig the lighter faded look.

I love the "ombre" on the back of these jeans. Too bad I'm gonna cut it all off...

I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this dress. It's very pretty but definitely not me. I think it's meant to be a swimsuit cover up but I think I could pull this off with a white blazer and some gold accessories. It still had the tags on and is available here for purchase.

Being Small Sucks.

Friday, February 8, 2013
I'm tiny. Well not really, but I am, but I'm kinda not. Sigh. Let's start over.

I'm five-foot-four which is about average height. Not too tall but not exactly short either, just average. The fact that I weigh 98 pounds means I'm skinny, or slim, or whatever you want to call it. I'm the girl who will order an entire medium pizza from Domino's and polish it off by herself in one sitting; or the girl who can eat a whole burrito from Chipotle without spilling a single grain of rice (That's what I like to call talent ladies and gentlemen.) Some might see this as a blessing, but in reality it's not, at least when it come to clothes shopping. In a perfect world, every single clothing piece would be made just for me. It would hug every curve (or lack of), drape precisely how I wanted it to, show the right amount of skin, I could go on forever. Sadly, we do not live in a perfect world and I am forced to go buy my clothes from stores which is where all the problems start.
see the awkward bunching at the waist on this "xs" dress?

Like most people, I can't afford to have a wardrobe full of J. Crew, Madewell, and ZARA. So like most people, I tend to shop at places like Forever 21 and H&M. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Forever 21 or H&M, they have tons of items for reasonable prices. Sure the quality isn't always top notch but, it's doable. My main problem with most stores is the sizing.

If I walk into Walmart, pick up a shirt in a size small and try it on there's a good chance that it will be at least 2 sizes too big. Even my size 2 burgundy pants from H&M are a bit too loose. Why is this? Well I'd like to introduce this little thing called size inflation. As our waistlines have gone up, sizes have gone down, which makes it ten times harder for smaller girls like me; It doesn't help that I have a body of an 11 year old boy before puberty.

In the right hand corner, we have heavyweight champion size inflation, and in the left hand corner we have newcomer, scrawny little me.

It's a battle I'll never win.

So until I become wildly successful and can afford a closet of J. Crew, I'll just have to deal with I can get and learn how to alter items. Which is always a good skill to have.

This Just In: Prada Inspired Shades

Wednesday, February 6, 2013
Statement sunglasses have become incredibly popular as of late. The second I saw these, I knew I had to have them. The only thing that was in my way was the steep $290 price tag (no thank you!) So instead I did what any other broke fashion lover would do; I turned to Amazon to find some Prada inspired glasses. Please note that these are inspired, not knock-offs. They would be considered a knock-off if they had the Prada logo on them.
I came across these inspired Prada Round Baroque Sunglasses and immediately bought them. I couldn't help it, they were only $6.10 on amazon including shipping. I placed my order on Thursday night and they got to me Wednesday afternoon. Along with the sunglasses, I received a little black pouch to store them in. They also have these in white and tortoise. Not gonna lie, I have my eye on the tortoise pair. Literally (ba dum tss). They look just like leopard print which I've be obsessing over recently-- but that's another blog post. ;)
These are definitely a bit out of my comfort zone, but they are too adorable to pass on! I've been wearing these a lot with dresses, skirts, and nice tops. They're much better suited with slightly dressier items but you could totally wear them with something really casual like shorts, leopard flats, a v-neck, and a bright cardigan.
What do you think about the statement sunglasses trend? Would you ever try it?

Mini Urban Outfitters Haul

Monday, February 4, 2013
Not too long ago (aka two weeks ago) I picked up some small items from Urban's winter sale. I didn't find too many things on sale that I liked so I only ended picking up some blushes and nail polishes :( But the best part is the fact that I only spent $11! They had an extra 50% off all sale items so I got one of the nail polishes and both blushes for only ninety-nine cents a piece!

The first nail polish I got was a Candy Coating topcoat that smells like green apple! It leaves a greenish tint over your nail polish (which it said it wouldn't do...) and it fades after a day or so. I honestly don't know how much I'll use this; I just wanted an excuse to spend money. Plus it was on sale for $1.99 and I got it for half off that. Score.

Next up is this gorgeous red color fittingly named Cherry Tomato. Urban has a continuous deal on their nail polishes of 2 for $8.  I only own one red nail polish from Revlon which I'm not too hot about. I find that one to be too thin and not "jelly" or shiny enough. I think this is a perfect red nail polish. It has a nice glossy finish and opaque color. I like how it isn't straight up red; It has hints of orange and pink in it which in my opinion makes it more of an everyday color as opposed to a classy nighttime red nail polish.
The next nail polish I picked up was this stunning grey-lilac color named smoke. This color would be perfect for the spring time and I thought it look great paired with other nail polishes.

I also got two of the NYX Stick Blushes in Orchid and Tea Rose. I've been using them every single day since I got them and I love them! They are really pigmented as you will see in the pictures below and are really creamy. They hold up pretty well but I will most likely do a full on review later to see how well they handle the Texas heat :)

Orange tags are always a good sign.

I use Orchid every day as a highlight color for my cheekbones.  The color reminds me of NARS Orgasm. Possible dupe?
Tea Rose is the perfect natural looking cheek color for my skin! It has a bit of a red undertone which blends in really nicely.
Well that concludes my minuscule Urban Outfitters haul! Did you see anything that caught your eye?
